ABOUT US
Our Mission | Our History | Testimonials | Contact Us The mission of Most Holy Redeemer AIDS Support Group is to help mitigate the suffering and enhance the quality of life of those struggling with debilitating HIV/AIDS-related diseases. This is accomplished by providing practical, emotional, and where desired, spiritual support to persons struggling with HIV/AIDS regardless of religious belief, age, race, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
ABOUT US
Our Mission | Our History | Testimonials | Contact Us MHR-AIDS Support Group was established in 1985 by ten very enthusiastic and dedicated individuals from our parish and neighborhood community. Being centered in the Castro district of San Francisco, these people witnessed first hand, and in great numbers, the rapid devastation and ultimate death of hundreds of local individuals infected with the once unknown disease we now identify as AIDS. Not willing to sit back and wait for others to “do something” these ten individuals began a simple program of outreach and assistance, providing practical and emotional support to those who’s lives were physically and emotionally being destroyed by HIV/AIDS. In January 2010 we began our 25th year of community outreach.

Emotional Support | Practical Support | Facilitated Groups Three professionally facilitated support groups provide healthy peer support along with professional direction. Positive Connections is a weekly “drop-in” group offering clients an opportunity for emotional support on an “as needed” basis. New Horizons is an “in-depth” psychotherapy group addressing client’s needs on much deeper level than Positive Connections. Participants commit to weekly meetings for a period of three months. New Horizons is not a “drop-in” support group. Thriving in Mid-Life is an eight-week support series that specifically focuses on the unique needs, issues, and concerns of our older, mid-life and senior clients.
VOLUNTEER
Client Assistance | Event Assistance | Board Membership Volunteers provide home-based practical and/or emotional support to our clients on a routine or “as needed” basis. Based on the specific needs of a client and the skills and availability of a volunteer, an appropriate match is established. Volunteer commitments and matches can be long-term or on a temporary basis and range from an average of 4 hours per week to that of occasional support. Practical assistance provides clients help with basic responsibilities they are unable to manage by themselves. This includes help with transportation, shopping, cooking, laundry, errands, house cleaning, pet care, and more. Emotional assistance provides clients a nurturing friendship: a supportive companion with whom to share a laugh, coffee or a personal concern. Assisting clients emotionally brings much comfort to them and greatly helps them as they struggle with relevant fears and the uncertainty of HIV/AIDS.
VOLUNTEER
Client Assistance | Event Assistance | Board Membership Volunteer help is needed throughout the year to assist us with numerous activities ranging from collating mailings and community outreach, to help with a variety of fundraisers. Annual help is needed as we participate in Macy’s Passport In-Store, The Castro Street Fair, San Francisco Pride, and three of our self sponsored fundraising events. We invite the additional volunteer help of individuals willing to share their special skills, talents and/or business opportunities for the benefit of our mission.
VOLUNTEER
Client Assistance | Event Assistance | Board Membership Membership on our Support Group Board provides a unique opportunity to play a major role in our mission of compassion to those struggling with HIV/AIDS. Members will assist in establishing goals and defining policies governing support programs and provide routine oversight of the Support Group. Board members are elected to serve a two-year term and may be re-elected to two additional two-year terms. After a one year break, a member who has served for six years may once again be re-elected to the Board. The Board generally meets quarterly, yet additional meetings are called as needed during the year.
